A delectable cake infused with marijuana is exactly what it sounds like: a space cake (or cannabis cake). Space cakes have grown in popularity among cannabis consumers and are available at dispensaries all over the country. Space cakes are a fantastic, private way to enjoy an out-of-this-world high (100 percent intended pun).
Although there are several space cake recipes on the internet, they all contain the same ingredients. A space cake is a baked confection that incorporates cannabutter or another cannabis-infused fat, such as coconut oil, according to personal taste.
Let’s begin with dosage so you know how much marijuana to use and when. We’ll go through a popular space cake recipe so you can create your own delicious cannabis treat at home, but first, we need to talk about dosages.
How long do the effects of a space cake last?
Cakes with cannabis-infused icing are known as “space cakes.” They’re marketed as edibles since the THC takes longer to act than it does when smoked or vaped. It’s always a good idea to start with a little amount and wait one to two hours before eating more. Keep in mind that you can eat as much as you want, but not less
Why do edibles have a greater impact than smoking or vaporizing cannabis? The THC in the edible is changed to 11-hydroxy-THC in your liver when you consume cannabis, which is considerably more powerful. Because THC must pass through your digestive system before it can function, edibles are also more difficult to break down.
How do I calculate the dose per serving?
To determine how much one slice of your space cake contains, you’ll need to do some math. To begin, compute the THC content of the cannabis you’re using to make your space cake with. So, for example, if you start with 1 g of flower containing 20% THC and end up with 200 mg total THC after decarboxylation, there will be 108 mg total in the oil produced during extraction in oil or butter (180 x 0.6). Following decarboxylation (180 x 0.9), that same oil will have a total of 108 mg THC.
If you cut your cake into eight equal pieces, each slice will contain roughly 13 milligrams of THC, which is a rather robust amount for most people. Consider reducing the ratio of cannabutter in your recipe or cutting your space cake into smaller servings if you’re new to or on a low dose of cannabis.
What’s a space cake?
Cakes, cupcakes, and pastries are all examples of baked goods shaped like a cake. They’re basically cakes (sometimes known as “space pastries”) sold by several medical cannabis dispensaries and coffee shops in Amsterdam with a passion for baking. Despite their name, space cakes are not baked in a tin or container; they’re actually baked on racks. Space cakes are created from cannabutter, which is butter that has been heated in a pan with marijuana leaves and buds before being filtered out.
A space cake, like other marijuana edibles, is cerebral, physical, and body-stone weighted. While the high does not take long to kick in – about an hour – it does go by rather quickly.
Why should I bake a Space Cake and not just smoke a joint?
It makes sense why people would create edibles if they’re used to smoking marijuana and getting a nearly immediate high. This makes sense, especially when you consider how long it takes marijuana edibles to work and how long their high lasts.
Edibles aren’t meant to take the place of joints, and the experiences aren’t comparable. Edibles give a unique high that differs from smoking and can be a lot of fun. They may also be used as a fantastic method to surprise guests or give the ideal present for someone who doesn’t smoke but does enjoy cannabis.
Is it worth making a nutritious dinner into an everyday extravagance? Perhaps not for everyone, but they do provide a distinct, powerful, full-body high that makes you seem like a ten-year-old who just received the biggest piece of birthday cake and doesn’t have to share.
Common edibles mistakes
When a would-be spacecake astronaut chews into a fluffy, cannabis-infused cake, nothing happens. An hour later, they take another bite — or two — to confirm that the first dose is effective, but there is still no rescue boat in sight.
This is a typical occurrence with edibles, and even expert users may make this mistake. Keep in mind that edibles work more slowly than other types of cannabis. Take your time, start small, and wait at least one hour before refueling.
The most common mistake is not decarboxylating your cannabis before making edibles. Because the cannabis has not been decarboxylated, the cake may be delicious, but it will not provide a high. Here’s why.
Why decarboxylation is key
If you decarb marijuana, your couch will become a lunar module. The conversion of THCA to THC via heat is known as decarbing, and your sofa becomes a moon base. When you smoke cannabis, it decarbs rapidly, but ingesting it first takes some time. It only takes about 30-45 minutes in the oven with some foil or a baking sheet for this to happen. Cannabis is ground on a pan for approximately 30-45 minutes at temperatures ranging from 220-245°F (105-120°C).
Don’t forget to crack the window. While you’re in space, no one can hear you scream, but your housemates on Earth will be able to smell the decarbing marijuana emanating from the room.
How to make cannabis oil and cannabutter
The following step is to prepare a cannabis infusion. Cannabinoids, like THC and CBD, are fat soluble, which means they must be combined with a fatty substance for the body to absorb and metabolize them.
You may convert any dish into a cannabis cuisine by replacing the original oil or butter with your own infused fat, olive oil, coconut oil, or butter.
Many would say that only butter should be used in a cake, but we’ll show you one that uses vegetable oil instead.
How to infuse vegetable oil with cannabis
Here’s what you’ll need to make some cannabis oil:
- 1 cup or around 7-14 grams of ground, decarboxylated cannabis
- 1 cup of vegetable oil
- Double-boiler, saucepan, or crockpot
- Storage container
- Cheesecloth
Cannabis may be infused in a variety of methods. The simple method is to heat the oil and decarboxylated cannabis in a saucepan at around 130-150°F (55-65°C) for three hours, stirring it frequently to prevent scorching.
Place the cannabis and oil in a Crock-Pot, set to low heat for three hours, and let it cook. Fill the bottom pan with water and add the cannabis if you’re using a double boiler; simmer for three hours if you’re using marijuana.
Allow the oil to cool with each approach. When it’s done, press it through a cheesecloth into a jar to remove all of the oil, then squeeze the cloth several times to be sure.
All you have to do now is keep it in a safe location where youngsters can’t get to it.
Another factor to consider while producing cannabis oil is the potency. If you desire a less powerful batch, use less cannabis (6 or 7 grams of flower). It’s completely up to you. If you’re creating an intense batch of oil, half-infuse it before combining it with non-infused oil to make sure it isn’t too strong. It all depends on your tolerance and how strong you want the cake to be.
The cannabis Space Cake recipe
You may make your own marijuana cake from scratch, using detailed records of your family’s lineage dating back to the Magna Carta’s creation, or you may simply change an existing recipe.
The cosmos has a plethora of cake recipes, but we decided to reinvent this delicious chocolate cake from Martha Stewart. She worked with Snoop Dogg as a friend and collaborator for many years before becoming a world-renowned culinary expert.
How to make chocolate Space Cake
Ingredients
- 4.5 cups unsweetened cocoa powder, plus more for dusting
- 4.5 teaspoons salt
- 9 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoon baking soda
- 1⁄4 cup cannabis-infused vegetable oil
- 11⁄2 cup vegetable oil
- 4.5 cups buttermilk
- 9 cups sugar
- 4.5 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 4.5 teaspoons baking powder
- 9 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 4.5 cups hot water
Method
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Oil two 8-inch cake pans and dust them with flour. Before adding the batter, butter the paper and cocoa in each pan.
Step 2
In a mixing dish, combine the cocoa powder, flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Slowly add the oil to the mixer while it is on low speed for a few minutes.
Step 3
Remove the loaves from the oven, set them aside for 10 minutes to cool, then invert them. Serve with berries or whipped cream, if desired.
Step 4
Remove the loaves from the oven and set them on wire racks to cool. After about 20-30 minutes, turn the pans over so that the cakes can cool top side up. Using a tiny, sharp knife, carefully cut one of the cakes’ tops off with as little of an incision as possible.
Step 5
The most important phase of the operation is this one. They may be stacked or paired, or you may go in a different direction and eat one of the cakes without icing it with hot fudge or whipped cream: for example, take a big chunk and drop it into a bowl with lots of ice cream.
However, if you want to provide cannabis chocolate cake, keep in mind the wise words of space cake elders: “Don’t go crazy.” Enjoy a normal-size slice and wait an hour or two before eating more.
Set your time machine to autopilot and go for a spin now that you’ve finished it. Set aside some time to sit back and enjoy the journey, but don’t rush back to reality when the time machine is turned on.
