Making Cannabutter for Baking Cookies
Before you can get started on making your delicious marijuana cookies, you need to gather all of the necessary ingredients. First and foremost, you need cannabutter. Cannabutter is simply butter that has been infused with THC from marijuana leaves – it’s what makes these cookies special. While making cannabutter isn’t difficult, it is time-consuming. You’ll also need a good amount of herbe; don’t skimp out! Finally, you will need:
- 2 sticks of unsalted butter
- 1/2 ounce of marijuana (ground and with seeds/stems removed)
- 1 cup of water
Set up a double-boiler to melt the butter. If you have a double boiler, feel free to use it. If not, no problem–you can set one up yourself with ease. Simply take a large stock pot and place it on your stove filled about 1/3 of the way with water. Then, grab a medium-sized bowl that will fit snugly over the top of the pot while still allowing room for water to circulate underneath. And there you have it!
You have to heat cannabis in order to get THC and the high that comes with it. You can’t feel the effects of marijuana if you don’t smoke or eat it,THC needs to be heated in order for your body to absorb it and get you high.
Melt the butter in the bowl of the double boiler. In a double boiler, slowly melt your two sticks of butter on low to medium heat. Keep the heat moderate so that the water only simmers–never boiling; otherwise, your butter will burn.
Unlike other water-soluble ingredients, THC in cannabis is fat soluble. This means that to use it for baking, you’ll need to heat the cannabis first in butter or oil to capture the THC.
If you do not consume dairy and want to avoid using butter, non-dairy margarine or coconut oil are both viable substitutes.
Wrap the marijuana in cheese cloth. While your butter is melting, you can also prepare the marijuana. Doing this will help guarantee that no bits of weed end up falling through the cheesecloth. Then, put your cannabis on the center ofthe cloth. Fold it over before rolling towards one long side until it’s as close tothe other edge as possible – think Rolling a burrito!
Use cooking twine to achieve the best possible burrito by evenly wrapping it around the center. If you don’t wrap it tightly enough, though, filling might fall out.
Place the marijuana tea bag into the melted butter. Next, add your marijuana tea bag to the melted butter. You may need to bend it a bit so that it fits snugly into the bowl. Using a metal spoon, push down on the tea bag so that it is fully submerged in the buttery goodness.
Add 1 cup of hot water to the butter. By adding water, you will ensure the THC-rich marijuana is fully covered and also help release its THC. Pour one cup of boiling water into the bowl with your melted butter and marijuana tea bag. It’s crucial to remember that unlike many other drugs,THC in marijuana is fat-soluble not water-soluble. Therefore, relying on just H2O won’t draw out much THC from your plants. The hot liquid will however assist in heating up the herb so that its active ingredient can be taken in by butterfat.
Cover and steep the marijuana. Next, cover the bowl with a heat proof lid and let the marijuana steep in the butter and water for four to six hours. Keep in mind that the longer you steep the marijuana in the butter, the more potent its THC levels will be. If you do not want your cannabutter too strong, then remove it from steeping at three or four hours – otherwise letting it sit for a full six hours will make for a powerful end product.
Remove the marijuana from the butter. After the marijuana has steeped, the butter will have a green tone. Remove the bowl from the double boiler using oven mitts for protection and set it aside. Take out the marijuana teabag from the butter with a slotted metal spoon and set it to the side. If you want, you can also use another metal spoon to press down on the cannabis tea bag and release any excess liquid back into
Let the butter cool. If you want, you can leave the butter to cool in the bowl or move it to a different container. Let the bowl and content inside cool down gradually until it reaches room temperature; then, put it in the fridge for some time – whether that be a few hours or overnight.
By pouring the liquid into a foil pan, you can easily get rid of any water once it cools.
Drain away the water. When the butter has cooled to room temperature, it will solidify and rise to the top of the bowl. The water you added will be at the bottom of the bowl. Pour out the water and keep the butter. You can use a strainer or just punch a hole in the bottom of your foil pan if you transferred the butter.
The cannabutter is now ready to use to make chocolate chip cookies or as a one-to-one swap for regular butter in your favorite cookie recipe. For example, if the recipe asks for ½ cup of butter, then replace it with ½ cup of cannabutter.
Baking Cannabis-Infused Chocolate Chip Cookies
Sift together the flour, salt, and baking soda. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 1 and 1/3 cup of flour, ¼ teaspoon of salt, and ¼ teaspoon of baking soda. Set the dry mix aside.
Cream together the cannabutter and sugar. With a measuring cup, take out ½ cup of cannabutter, 2/3 cup of packed brown sugar, and 1/3 cup granulated sugar. With a hand mixer on low speed, combine the cannabutter and sugars until they appear fluffy. Room-temperature cannabutter will mix more easily with the sugar.
Add the vanilla and egg. Afterwards, stir in the vanilla and egg to the cannabutter-sugar concoction. Use a hand mixer on medium speed to whip all of the ingredients until they form an even mixture.
Stir in the chocolate chips. Add 1 and 1/3 cups of chocolate chips to your liquid ingredients to make them chocolatey. Stir the mixture until it looks uniform with a spoon or spatula.
Mix in the flour. To complete the dough, you will need to sift in the dry ingredients that you prepared. Add the flour, salt, and baking soda to the wet ingredients. Use a spatula or spoon to mix together until a dough forms.
Scoop the dough onto the cookie sheet. Large cookies: For this recipe, you will need to scoop ¼ cup of dough at a time onto the cookie sheet. Be sure to space out the dough balls evenly so that they have room to spread while baking.
If you want your cookies to be smaller, add one tablespoon of the dough mixture to the cookie sheet individually.
Bake the cookies. For small cookies, bake your cookies at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. If you want chewier cookies, then cook them for around 10 minutes. For crunchier ones ,cook them for around 12 minutes. For larger cookies, bake the cookie s at 325 degrees for 18 to 25 minutes.
