Access Point

A medical access point is a recognized place where patients can obtain and purchase medical cannabis. It may also be referred to as a pick-up location, and while medicine should be simple to get, the facility must follow state regulations in order for authorization, paperwork, and a store procedure to be expected. Depending on individual state legislation, rules, and jargon in the medical cannabis community, an access point is frequently synonymous with a dispensary.

Aroma

A “scent” is the overall odor and/or taste of a plant or flower. Because people’s perceptions of aromas (such as “earthy,” skunky,” or “citrus”) are subjective, aroma descriptions are meant to be used as a starting point.

Backcross (BX)

A backcross is a hybrid plant that has been created through breeding one of its parents (or a genetically similar plant) with the aim of getting offspring closer to that of the original parent. For example, a grower may use their own father to make sure the kid has his father’s height. This is frequently done to keep distinct varieties or improve those with desired recessive genes.

BHO

Butane hash oil (BHO) is a potent concentration of cannabinoids produced by dissolving marijuana in its plant form in a solvent (usually butane). The end product has extremely high THC levels, typically more than flowers or hashish, and is a thick, gluey oil. Depending on the manufacturing process, BHO is also known as honey oil, “dabs,” “dabbing,” or shatter.

Bong

A huge glass pipe, which uses water to diffuse and cool the smoke as you breathe it into your lungs.

Bud

The term bud refers to the actual flower of the marijuana plant. These are the fluffy parts that are plucked and used for recreational or medical purposes since they include the greatest levels of active cannabinoids.

Budtender

This is the person who assists you at your neighborhood cannabis shop or retail dispensary and can answer your questions about strains, cannabis goods, and make suggestions based on your requirements.

Cannabis

Cannabis is a genus of flowering plants that includes three species: Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, and Cannabis ruderalis. Both recreational and medical marijuana are manufactured from cannabis sativa and cannabis indica. Cannabis ruderalis is rarely cultivated due to its low THC concentration and tiny stature, but there has been some cross-breeding as a result of ruderalis’ unique capacity to auto-flower rather than mature depending on light, so there is potential for this variety to become more popular. Cannabis is indigenous to Asia, although it may be grown almost everywhere and has long been used both as a source of hemp and as a narcotic.

CBD

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of the at least 85 cannabinoids found in cannabis and the second-most abundant cannabinoid behind THC when it comes to overall volume. CBD has recently gained favor as a medical treatment owing to studies demonstrating that it effectively treats pain, inflammation, and anxiety without producing psychoactive effects (the “high” or “stoned” feeling) like those present in THC. Breeders are developing high CBD strains such as Harlequin more actively now than they were previously.

Concentrés

Concentrates are a sort of herbal drug that is comprised of cannabis in its natural state, which has been dissolved in a solvent. The end result is a high THC content (usually more than flowers or hashish), and various items including thick sticky oils (BHO) to moldable goo (budder/w sugar) to resinous fragments (shatter) can be produced. The terminology for concentrates varies based on the production process and the consistency of the end product.

Clone

Clippings from a cannabis plant that have been cut and transplanted through a cloning technique of the mother plant, from which the clone was taken.

Cross (genetics)

A cross (pronounced “cruzer”) is the offspring of two distinct plant strains that have been bred together. Blue Dream, for example, is a cross between the Blueberry and Haze strains.

Dank

A descriptive term for sticky, high-quality cannabis with a strong odour.

Dispensary

Dispensary is a catchall term that refers to any location where a patient or consumer may lawfully and safely obtain cannabis, whether the business is technically a point of access, pick-up site. co-op, collective, or other kind of lawful cannabis distributor.

Comestibles

Edibles are infused medicated edible products. They’re generally baked goods like cookies and brownies, although other items including flavored coffee beverages, breads, and sweets are also available. Dispensaries frequently sell marijuana-infused butters or oils for patients or consumers to make their own edibles. When you consume edibles, the active components in the extracts must go through your digestive system more slowly because they must be absorbed via the stomach.

Hash/Hash Oil

Hashish, also known as hash, is a form of cannabis derived from plants and used for either consumption or medical purposes. The removal of trichomes using sieving or filtering is involved in the production process. After the cannabinoid-rich powder has been collected, it is generally pressed and ready to use. Hash varies in strength depending on how much of the plant’s active components have been discarded, but it is typically more powerful than ordinary flowers. A concentrated version produced chemically utilizing a solvent may be called hash oil; however, this product is often referred to as “honey oil.”

Hemp

Hemp is a fibrous plant that may be extracted from the cannabis male plant and used in the production of rope, paper, cosmetics, and a variety of other goods. Because hemp plants are males, they have no value as a narcotic. They are, nevertheless, prohibited in the United States.

Indica

Cannabis indica is the scientific name for Indica cannabis. The strains in this category generally originated in the Middle East and Asia, including both of the well-known kush and Afghan lines. When compared to their sativa counterparts, these plants are shorter, bushier, and have more compact flower structure. This type of marijuana has a sedative effect and may create physical sensations that are less stimulating than those produced by sativas.

Kush

The Kush mountains in Afghanistan and Pakistan are where the term “kush” comes from. Indicas with a distinct smell have made them popular. Specific breeds and plants are distinct, but their scent is usually described as “earthy” and sometimes piney citrus or sweet combinations.

Marijuana

Female cannabis plants or their dried flowers are referred to as marijuana. Female plants are different from male plants in that they produce blossoms that contain the high percentage of cannabinoids, which account for both their therapeutic and psychoactive effects.

OG

The history of OG Kush is a bit convoluted, as it was derived from many different strains. The term “OG” is now used to define a variety of strains, however the name was coined to designate Southern California’s Ocean Grown Kush, which was swiftly shortened to OG Kush. OG Kush quickly rose in popularity and reputation. The majority of OGs are variations of the original OG Kush genetics or are cultivated on the West Coast using methods similar to those used in the ocean.

Pot

A marijuana cigarette is called a “pot.”

Pre-roll

A pre-roll is a pre-rolled marijuana cigarette that is widely known as a joint in informal usage. Many dispensaries provide pre-rolls for sale.

Sativa

The cannabis sativa species of cannabis plant is known by the scientific term indica. These plants, which originated outside of the Middle East and Asia, include strains from South America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Thailand. Sativas have a tendency to grow taller as plants (usually over 5 feet), are lighter in color, and take longer to flower. When consumed, sativas tend to produce more cerebral effects rather than physical or sedative ones.

Strain

A souche is a specific form of a plant species. Strains are created to give the plant certain desired characteristics and are usually named by breeders (or creative customers). Strain names frequently reflect the plant’s appearance, potency, or origin. Although the medical marijuana business aspires for uniformity, strains may easily be mixed up.

THC

THC is a chemical name for tetrahydrocannabinol. It’s the most well-known and widely available cannabinoid in cannabis plants. THC is the component in cannabis that causes the psychoactive effects, commonly known as the “high.” It was first isolated in 1964 and is thought to be a plant’s natural defense against pests. THC has been shown to have therapeutic benefits for a variety of ailments, according to research. The compound’s natural form does not contain an overdose limit.

Tincture

A tincture is a liquid cannabis extract that is often dosed with a dropper and may be made using alcohol or glycerol. Tinctures can be flavored and are usually taken sublingually, where they are absorbed within minutes. Effects typically appear after minutes. Tinctures may also be combined into drinks; however, because they will be digested by the body, effects will take longer to manifest in these cases.

Vaporizer

A vaporizer is a tool for ingesting cannabis. It heats flowers or marijuana-infused oils to a certain point, generating a cannabinoid-laced vapor to breathe. Vaping is healthier than smoking since there is no smoke to consume, but it still delivers rapid effects. Vaporizing is becoming increasingly fashionable as new, smaller versions become available.
